Pastor Baker is a native of Vero Beach, Florida and was born to the late Rose Baker. He is the third son of four boys (Older brothers Jackie and Allen Baker—both deceased), and younger brother Anthony Baker of Atlanta Georgia. He grew up in a single-parent home in a small apartment. His mother passed away when he was fifteen, leaving him responsible for the fate of him and younger brother. They lived with their grandmother (Grace Baker-Bradley).

Pastor Baker recalls his early years with fondness—a small safe environment of family, friends and wonderful neighbors. He grew up attending Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Gifford Florida. Due to the influence of his grandmother and other church & community leaders, Pastor Baker knew early about his destiny to preach the Gospel. Upon graduation from high school, he moved to Atlanta Georgia, where he lived over 30 years. He currently resides in Decatur AL for the past six years.
Before heeding the call to the ministry, Pastor Baker completed his studies at DeVry University in Electronics. Additionally, he studied at Southern College of Technology majoring in Electrical Engineering. Other Biblical/Theological studies at Luther Rice Seminary & Bible College were taken. He also completed course titles on Evangelism, Missiology, Church Growth, and Church Administration.

In April of 2004, Pastor Baker founded and establishment of Built on Christ Ministries, Inc (BOC). He has utilized the acronym B.O.C. in his entrepreneurial pursuits as well as in his daily life. According to Pastor Baker, B.O.C. is the cornerstone and foundation of all of his endeavors.
Baker currently serves as Senior Pastor of St Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur Alabama, President of Cornerstone Christian Associates, Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce Board Member, Decatur City Schools Foundation Board member, Decatur-Morgan Minority Diversity Association Board Member, and Chairman of the Board for Red Cross of Morgan-Lawrence county AL; coach and mentor to many other leaders.

Baker married his high school sweetheart, Carol (Bradley) of Wabasso Florida. Jerry & Carol has shared over 39 years of blissful marriage. They are the proud parents of 3 kids—Jerry Jr. (Deceased), Tesha (Raymond) Sanders (38) and Jerry II (36). Also, they have 4 Grandchildren—Raven (14), David (13) Rachel (11), all children of Tesha & Ray Sanders; and Joy (4), the daughter of Jerry II.
